A MILITARY ceremony was held in Syria for Bournemouth man Jac Holmes who was killed while fighting Islamic State.
Mr Holmes died clearing the newly liberated city of Raqqa from mines.
The 24-year-old sniper had been fighting with the Kurdistan People’s Protection Units since January 2015.
His coffin was taken to Iraq and will be re-patriated to the UK.
Mr Holmes previously worked as a service desk analyst for Bournemouth council’s private outsourcing partner Mouchel.
During his three tours with the YPG up until his death, his mother, Angie Blannin, said he had fought in every major battle, had at times been surrounded by IS fighters and had suffered only a gunshot wound to his arm and three cracked ribs.
