A THIEF fell off a roof after he and two others were spotted trying to steal lead.

Police have released CCTV images of three suspects following the attempted theft of lead from a roof in Wareham.

The incident happened at around 12.15am on Friday, November 3, at Purbeck Mobility in St John's Hill.

Three men were seen attempting to rip the lead off the roof of the building.

A witness disturbed the offenders and one of them fell from the roof, seemingly injuring his leg.

The trio then made off in a large work van, which was seen driving away from the scene with its lights off.

Police Constable Tom Renshaw, of Wareham police, said: "I appreciate the CCTV images are not the best quality, but if anyone is able to identify any of the suspects, or knows of someone who badly injured their leg in suspicious circumstances, please get in touch.

"I am also appealing for any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police, or call Crimestoppers anonymously."

He added: "If any residents have any concerns about lead theft, the local Neighbourhood Policing Team is always available and can be contacted for crime prevention advice. Advice is also available by visiting www.dorset.police.uk."
