Snow fell in Dorset this morning - but the county escaped the winter whiteout seen across much of the country.

Falling snow was reported in Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne and North Dorset from around 5am.

A yellow warning for ice was issued by the Met Office and was valid until 11am.

Dorset County Council has sent its gritters out this lunchtime and they will be gritting key routes again tonight at 7pm.

Drivers are being urged to take care on the roads with the risk of black ice forming from 3pm onwards.

Bournemouth council tweeted: "Gritting underway lunchtime today on all primary and commuter routes across Bournemouth with treacherous black ice forecast this afternoon as temperatures plummet following overnight rain."

"Please take extra care on journeys home"

Huge swathes of the UK had heavy snow on Sunday with planes being diverted to Bournemouth Airport due to weather conditions at Heathrow.

Temperatures today will feel no warmer than 3C but by Wednesday temperatures will be closer to 9C.
