A WOMAN who feared she wouldn't make it to her only daughter's wedding has praised hospital staff for making her dreams come true.

Carole Traylor, 61, just managed to make it to her daughter Natasha's wedding thanks to the kind-hearted staff at Royal Bournemouth Hospital going "above and beyond the call of duty."

Carole, from Christchurch, was admitted to hospital at the end of November, just days before her daughter was due to marry husband James Williams at the Green House Hotel in Bournemouth.

Having told the doctor on admission that it was her daughter's wedding last weekend, Carole said it was soon well-known among all the nurses and staff on ward 14 about the special occasion.

"I really was quite unwell", Carole said.

"But on the morning of the wedding, one of the nurses brought in hair spray so she could do my hair. My husband, Christopher, arrived to pick me up at midday but we hadn't seen the consultant to get the go-ahead yet.

"He couldn't get there until 12.15pm as he had been operating so my husband had to leave.

"But the nurses helped me get dressed and the consultant said I couldn't miss the big day but I wouldn't be able to stay very long."

She added: "Emma (one of the nurses) spent ages doing my hair and one of other nurses, Josie, drove me to the ceremony on her break, held my arm and walked me in. I made it just in time.

"Everyone was so shocked, especially my daughter. It was very emotional. My husband was so proud to be walking her down the aisle.

"I really want what the wonderful staff did for me recognised. They made all my dreams come true.

"Hospital staff and the NHS don't always get the appreciation they deserve, but I think it was extraordinary. It meant everything to us; we get to share those memories now.

"There was true heart in what they did; they don't just treat the illness."

Royal Bournemouth Hospital's ward 14 deputy sister, Girlie Bautista, said: “It was such a privilege to be able to help Carole as we knew how important it was for her to be at the wedding.

"I’m so proud of the team who really pulled together and who often go above and beyond to help our patients.

"They work so hard and show such compassion on a daily basis."
