A CAT made an "amazing" recovery after being hit by a car on a busy dual carriageway.

And now the owners of Kellow want to thank the person who stopped to pick up their treasured pet from the roadside and take her to a vet.

Trish Bell said the "gorgeous ginger cat", who is only a year old, was unconscious when she was taken in. She suffered a broken jaw and a huge laceration on her chest, as well as several cuts and grazes.

After several operations, vets were able to save Kellow who is now recovering from her ordeal at home and on antibiotics.

"She's used about six of her nine lives after this!" Trish said.

"We got a call from Walton Lodge vets at 8.30am and were told Kellow had been run over on the Upton Bypass, and she wasn't in a great condition.

"They sedated her and put her in an oxygen tent before the operation. It was touch and go for the next 24 hours."

Trish, who has two other cats, said Kellow was brought home as a stray by her son Jason and his girlfriend, Maria. They went on a glamping holiday to north Devon when they discovered Kellow.

"Jason phoned me up and said 'Mum, we're bringing a cat home'. Although we already have two cats, she's a gorgeous ginger cat so we couldn't say no."

She added: "We really want to find the person that took her into the vets. If they hadn't done so, she wouldn't have survived. We have given our phone number to the vets to pass onto them but haven't heard anything yet. Even if it was them who ran Kellow over, we don't blame them as it wasn't their fault she ran out onto a busy road.

"We posted about it on Facebook and it has already been shared hundreds of times."

Trish praised Walton Lodge vets for their treatment of Kellow, adding: "They've been fantastic. She survived because of their treatment."
