BOURNEMOUTH has been named the second highest trending destination in the world, according to Airbnb.
The town has seen its popularity rise on the site by 353%, according to the company’s 2018 Travel Trends report, and came second in the list of top 20 trending destinations after Gangneung in Korea.
Other trending destinations included Edmonton in Canada, Indianapolis in the USA and Da Nang in Vietnam.
Bournemouth was the only UK destination to appear inside the top 10 with Cardiff appearing eleventh.
A spokesperson for Airbnb said: "An unusually warm microclimate, dramatic seascapes, and a buzzing nightlife of clubs and casinos make Bournemouth a tempting destination this year."
London remains one of the most sought-after cities on the site and was the fifth most popular city to visit for a break this year.
Travellers have also been getting more adventurous with their accommodation and are opting for more rustic and unique places to stay.
Airbnb has seen a 700% rise in the number of nature lodges booked over the last year, while bookings for ryokans (a type of traditional Japanese inn) were up 600% and yurt stays are up by 155%.
