AN early Christmas present will be delivered to one Bournemouth youngster thanks to a special event last month.

Three-year-old Delilah needs a self-propelled wheelchair as she is unable to walk.

And thanks to a charity dinner organised by Urban Guild, with Dorset Children's Foundation, Delilah will be getting the sparkly pink wheelchair she needs to stay independent.

The dinner at Urban Reef, hosted by owner Mark Cribb, raised £3,622, and saw more than 100 people attend.

A special menu was put together by the restaurant's award winning chef, with local suppliers donating their products for free.

All the profits from the dinner went directly to the charity to pay for the special wheelchair for Delilah.

It will help her to self- propel and give her some independence, so her mum doesn’t have to carry her.

The funding has also helped to purchase a special frontal attachment which means it can be converted into an off-roader for special outings.

Urban Guild have chosen to help the charity to help improve the lives of local sick and disabled children in Dorset.

Mr Cribb said: "I’m always a bit cynical about charities as some of them spend too much on admin and wages but the Dorset Children’s Foundation are doing amazing stuff at minimum cost, where every penny that gets donated goes to the kids.

"It’s the little things that change children’s lives and we’re going to be working with them to help improve the lives of local sick and disabled children."

The DCF have three successful charity shops in Bournemouth which cover all their modest overheads, so every single penny that is donated goes to helping the children.
