EXCELLENCE and innovation in Poole will be celebrated at a special event scheduled for the Civic Centre on Thursday.

The Daily Echo backed ‘Celebrating Poole’ initiative has been arranged to show off the very best in the borough, across the fields of business, education, healthcare and cultural life.

Six keynote speakers, including Sunseeker’s chief executive Phil Popham, and Stuart Bartholomew from the Arts University Bournemouth, will address the invite only event, which is being hosted by the Borough of Poole.

Sunseeker, which exports to more than 50 countries, employs 2,300 people in Dorset and Poole and has won numerous accolades, including multiple Queens Awards for Enterprise.

Other businesses and organisations set to be represented include Lush; marine electronic company Actisence; fume extraction technology firm BOFA, and software manufacturer TDSi.

Ian Girling, from the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is also set to speak.

BOP leader Cllr Janet Walton said: “Poole has a lot to offer and is a great place to live, work, learn and play.

“As a council, we can take enormous pride in the many businesses and organisations that contribute to making this such a successful and vibrant borough.

“We believe we can build on these successes and create an even better future for Poole.

“This event will celebrate the very best of Poole – our aim is to showcase excellence and innovation across the fields of business, education, healthcare and cultural life that have a home in Poole.”

The presentations set for the evening include talks by BOFA’s Tony Lockwood, Poole Hospital consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon Professor Tas Qureshi, and Poole councillor Ian Potter, who is the portfolio holder for planning, regeneration and transportation.

Cllr Potter’s presentation will provide an overview of the borough’s approach to regenerating Poole, including updates on major developments

Lisa Treagle, head of participation at Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will also speak at the event. The BSO is based at Poole’s Lighthouse Arts Centre.
