REGARDING the roadworks near Bournemouth Airport and the new Canford Bottom roundabout at Wimborne.
The new Canford Bottom roundabout was opened ahead of the Olympics to ease congestion on the A31. The cost increased from £5.7m to more than £9m. I believe this roundabout has 70 traffic lights and it has turned out to be a total disaster. Who on earth designed this and who is responsible for sorting out this total mess? Everybody in the county agreed a flyover was the best solution except for the architects and planners in their great wisdom!
Again the works around Bournemouth Airport are a total waste of time to improve the cycle lane which accommodates about 2% of the traffic. Who on earth gave the go ahead to this sorry state of roadworks?
The cost to industry and businesses in the area is horrendous and I know that some people travelling from Ferndown to Christchurch are taking 1.5 hours to cover a 10 mile journey.
With regards to efficiency of the construction I suggest that we look at overseas companies, for example, from Poland, Japan or China, to take over the roadworks. They would get the work done in a third of the time and it would be of a better quality. What divine right has allowed construction workers in this country to do 8 hours a day? There should be 3 x 8 hour shifts, 24 hours non stop until the job is finished, which is how other countries work. No other country would tolerate the upheaval and traffic chaos.
