THREE Dorset schools have been rated among the top performers in the country.

Parkstone Grammar, Bournemouth School for Girls and the private Canford School all figure in Parent Power, the Sunday Times School Guide.

The report lists the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by exam results.

Parkstone Grammar was placed fifth in the South West and joint 65th in the country, up from 89th last year. More than three-quarters of its A-level grades were A* to B, while 65.7 per cent of its GCSEs were at A* or A.

Bournemouth School for Girls was joint ninth in the region and joint 87th nationally, down from joint 79th, with 71.3 per cent of its A-levels at A* to B and 64.5 per cent of its GCSEs at A* or A.

Among private schools, Canford School in Wimborne was 10th in the region and 137th nationally, down from 102nd. It saw 77.8 per cent of its A-levels at A* to B and 65.2 per cent of GCSEs at A* or A.
