THE arrival of the Coca-Cola Christmas truck in Bournemouth heralded the start of the festive season for many.

However, this year, the famous red truck’s visit coincided with a protest from sugar campaigners who were offering free toothbrushes to people in the Triangle.

Sarah Watson, manager of the Sustainable Food City Partnership, said: “We’re trying to engage people to be more Sugar Smart, and the arrival of the Coca-Cola truck in our town was an ideal moment to launch our campaign.

“People have been really positive and interested in what we’re saying. We’re not saying never have sugary drinks, but swap some out for something healthier.”

Jenna Nicholson and Vicki Townsend were among those queuing up to have their picture taken next to the truck. “It’s a sign of Christmas and something for the kids to enjoy,” Jenna said.

Amelia Morris, 9, said she was “excited” to see the truck, while Nikita Roberti brought her five-year-old daughter to visit the attraction.

“It’s something fun for children. We came to see it after visiting the Christmas market,” she said.

The lorry will be stationed at the Triangle again on Friday.

People will be able to have their pictures taken with the truck between 11am and 7pm.

The lorry stars in the fizzy drinks giant’s popular festive advert featuring the Holidays are Coming slogan, which first aired in 1995.
