A NEIGHBOURHOOD in Christchurch has been hit with a spate of vandalism to vehicles.

A car parked on the roadside in Solent Road, Walkford, had its window smashed at some point over the weekend.

Rui Brito, owner of the damaged vehicle, had left his car while he was in London for the weekend recording a music video with his band, Saints of Sin.

Upon returning to Walkford on Sunday, Mr Brito discovered the driver's side window had been smashed in.

After a successful and positive trip to the capital, the band's lead singer said it had put a dampener on the weekend.

"I've parked my car there for three years and never really had an issue," Mr Brito said.

"Now I'm very reluctant to park my car in that area again.

"The window was broken but is wasn't put through as if they were trying to steal something.

"It is stupid mindless vandalism - it's just baffling.

"I work hard for my money and I don't do that to spend it getting a new window on my car.

Mr Brito, who lives in Hinton, said insurers have said they will not cover the cost and there had been incidents of tyres being slashed months ago.

As reported recently, police appealed for information after three cars parked in Glenville Road, which joins Solent Road, had their tyres slashed on two separate occasions.

The first series of damage took place between Monday October 23 and Tuesday October 24.

The repeat offence took place between 8pm on Sunday, November 12 and Monday, November 13.

All the vandalism has been reported to police.

Ward councillor Sally Derham Wilkes said it was disappointing to discover cars had been targeted.

"I'm shocked and horrified to hear people are doing this," Cllr Derham Wilkes said.

"Im lost for words. Why would anyone do something like slash someone's car tyres?

"I feel very sorry for the owners of these vehicles.

"You just cannot understand it and its so difficult to get your head round this.

"I know some residents complain about the number of cars parked in Glenville Road, but any vandalism of this kind is just mindless."
