A ROAD in Bournemouth town centre will remain closed until Saturday due to a sinkhole requiring a "complex repair".
A section of Fir Vale Road, outside Cameo nightclub, has been shut off since last Wednesday after a leak led to Bournemouth Water undertaking emergency work.
Initially the utility company said they hoped to complete the work on the same day, but the repair is now likely to force the road to be closed for 11 days from start to finish.
A spokesperson for Bournemouth Water said: βIn consultation with council engineers, this has been a complex repair to prevent any reoccurance.
"Planned work includes the insertion of foam concrete which will then be topped with slabs. Tarmac will subsequently be applied and dried.
"We expect the road to re-open on Saturday and apologise for the inconvenience this essential emergency work may have caused.β
While the road has been closed, Bournemouth Borough Council has carried out maintenance to area of the highway towards St Peter's Road.
