PLANS to build eight flats in space unused by a high street toy shop have been submitted to Poole council.

The proposals for the High Street building have been lodged with Borough of Poole's planning departments and would see the space at The Entertainer toy store converted into eight flats.

The scheme would also build over the roof space and create a second floor for four of the flats.

Previously, the building was occupied by McDonalds, before the toy shop opened in September.

A design and access statement said: "The application comprises seven one bed flats and one studio.

"All the newly created flats will have access to external amenity space across the second floor.

"Flats 3 and 4 will have private amenity space whilst the remaining flats will have a large shared amenity space."

It adds: "The applicant considers that this design, following on from the alterations to the front elevation, will be much more in keeping with other period buildings on the High Street and should therefore represent a significant improvement to the street scene at the front of the building."
