HOUSEHOLD recycling centres (HRCs) across Dorset will close for separate two-day stretches between this month and March 2018 for cleaning and maintenance.

Swanage's HRC at Prospect Business Park will be inaccessible to the public on Wednesday, November 29 and Thursday, November 30.

It will re-open for use at 10am on Friday, December 1.

The Wareham site on the Westminster Road Industrial Estate will be closed all day on Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7. It will reopen as usual at 10am on Friday, December 8.

Shaftesbury HRC will be closed on January 24 and 25, Blandford's on February 7 and 8 and Sherborne's on February 28 and March 1.

Wimborne's will be shut on March 7 and 8 and Christchurch's will be closed on March 21 and 22.

During the annual 'deep clean', facilities are cleansed, landscaping is maintained, parking bays are relined and general repairs are carried out to steps and recycling containers.

Karyn Punchard, director of the Dorset Waste Partnership, said: “We have chosen a relatively quiet time of year and the least busy part of the week to carry out this work, minimising disruption for local people as much as possible.

"For practical and safety reasons we need to close these sites to visitors during this period."

Normal opening hours for all of the Dorset Waste Partnership's HRCs is 10am until 4pm daily from October 1 to March 31, and 9am to 6pm daily from April 1 to September 30.

The HRCs are not open on Christmas day, boxing day or new year's day.
