A man has come forward after a photo appeal by police following an alleged sexual assault in Wimborne.

The alleged victim, who is in her 40s, was out drinking with friends in the town on the night of Saturday, November 4.

She began talking to a man who approached the group as they were walking between the White Hart pub in Corn Market and the Rising Sun in East Street.

When the group of friends left the Rising Sun in the early hours of the following day, Sunday, November 5, the man insisted on walking the victim back to her home address in the town.

There, it is alleged he sexually and physically assaulted her.

Police launched an investigation and yesterday released a photograph of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the incident.

Later, they confirmed a man had contacted officers.

A statement said: "A 32-year-old man from Poole has this evening contacted officers and is assisting them with enquiries. No arrests have been made."
