THE Winton Boys School class photograph from 1970s sent in by Moordown Local History Society and printed on October 4 was very popular with readers with many views online.

Lindsey Harris, Steven Whitely, Mark Anderson, Graham Prentice, William Mason and Malcolm Wilson were among the many former pupils of the school who recognised all the boys and teachers in the picture.

One reader, who has the same picture, said it is of G2 Class who attended Winton Boys from 1972 -1977 and was taken in 1975.

They have been identified as follows, front row, left to right, Paul Atkins, James Clarke, Eric Underhill, Mark Coakes, David Moores, Graham Prentice, Alex Edwards, Christopher Lay, Neil Proctor and Nicholas Cooke.

Middle row: Shane Perkins, Paul Bailey, Paul Baker, Richard Lawrence, Kevin Frizzell, Steven Whitely, Graham Attwell, Mark Anderson, Simon Letch and Michael Barratt. Back row: Mr Thorton-Grimes form teacher known as 'Muttlow' who also taught French, Jon Axford, Damian Gosling, Ricky Harris, Andrew Elliott, Malcolm Taylor, Ian Pullen, Andrew Park, Timothy Davies, Mark Torrance, David Mitchell, Giovanni Morelli, Phillip Legge and woodwork teacher Mr Whitty.

Malcolm Wilson who attended Winton Boys, leaving in 1978, remembers a school trip to Cherbourg with Mr Muttlow where the boys bought firework bangers of the 'small red variety' at the joke shop and had them confiscated and thrown overboard on the journey home, with the exception of Malcolm who had hidden his in a French loaf.

Talented woodwork teacher Mr Whitty made replacement side gates for Malcolm's parents bungalow in Howeth Road in his spare time.

Malcolm has lots of fond memories of Winton Boys and the discipline prepared him well for a career in the military.
