RESCUE teams rushed to a coastal path in Purbeck on Saturday after reports of a walker suffering a cardiac arrest.

Wyke Coastguard Rescue assisted Lulworth Coastguard Rescue after reports that the walker had fallen ill on the coastal path between Durdle Door and Swyre Head in the Purbeck area.

Both teams were alerted at around 12.30pm.

Wyke initial response team were on mobile patrol and were called to provide backup to the Lulworth team by the National Maritime Operations Centre.

The Lulworth team arrived first on scene with paramedics and when the Wyke team arrived, they advised that the walker was responding well and could walk.

Both coastguard teams assisted with patient transportation as the ambulance couldn't access the off-road location.

The casualty and paramedics were taken to a waiting ambulance by the Lulworth vehicle.

Wyke response team transported paramedics’ medical equipment and Lulworth team members back to their primary point.

A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard said: "With the casualty safely transferred to the awaiting ambulance, both teams were stood down with thanks.

"The Wyke initial response team then returned to station and gave their vehicle a well needed wash."
