A DRIVE-THRU Starbucks could be opening at a Poole business park if plans are given the go-ahead.

The coffeehouse chain would be brought to a unit at Fleets Corner Industrial Estate, creating around 11 jobs.

If planning permission is granted, it would be the second drive-thru Starbucks to open in Dorset. A similar store opened in Ringwood Road, St Leonards last August.

Applicant Britel Fund Trustees Limited is behind the proposed store in Poole.

PRC Architecture & Planning have outlined the details of the scheme in a design and access statement.

The drive-thru café would take over a single-storey unit with 197m² of floor space. The industrial estate, which is situated off the A3049 Dorset Way and the A349 Waterloo Road, accommodates a number of businesses including Selco Builders Warehouse, Hamworthy Heating, and Lush.

“The existing estate currently provides no facilities for existing users and the proposed building will primarily provide facilities for existing estate users, making the site a more attractive place to be for new and existing users,” the design and access statement reads.

The new drive-thru café would have 21 car parking spaces, as well as eight cycle parking spaces and external seating areas.

“The layout of the site has been designed to respond to the site constraints and the practical considerations of a drive-thru facility.

“The drive-thru facility is located where 66 temporary car parking spaces were previously implemented for the wider site and are no longer required. These parking spaces are being relocated to the south of unit A3,” the statement explains.

The scheme is situated on land within the existing industrial estate that is currently undeveloped and located off a main access road. The proposed building is smaller than the majority of buildings on the estate, which range between one and six storeys.

Addressing the design of the proposed cafe, the architect says a colour scheme of silver and grey tones will be used, with a range of materials including brickwork, panel cladding, aluminium framed doors and glazing.

“The main entrance elevation and northern elevation facing the car park will feature large areas of shop front style glazing. This will maximise the amount of natural day lighting, as well as create an active frontage with strong legibility and natural surveillance,” the statement explains.

The plans will be considered by Poole council’s planning board.
