A GIRLS' football team in East Dorset is asking for help in their bid to win a £1,000 grant to promote girls in football.

Corfe Mullen United Juniors Football Club has entered the Aviva Community Fund competition, which offers funding to community projects.

The girls’ team for seven to nine-year-olds only launched in September and the club wants to increase awareness of the team within the local community.

If successful, the team will use the cash the cash to buy extra kit, facilities and tailored football experiences to promote girls in football.

The Aviva Community Fund will finance over 500 projects across four different fund levels and four categories.

Community projects can apply for funding of £1,000, £5,000, £10,000 or £25,000.

Projects that get enough votes and impress the judges will be in with a chance of receiving funding.

The Corfe Mullen U9 girls team’s entry says: “We would like to not only increase awareness in our local community of girls having somewhere to give football a go without pressure but reward and encourage our girls for their commitment and provide them with female role models, to increase their knowledge, enjoyment and feeling of value promoting them to stay with the sport they love now, as they grow.

“These are the girls that will likely help keep this within our club and community.”

Voting is now open and closes on November 21.
