A NEW club is being set up in Bournemouth to give vegans a chance to meet up.

The initiative is part of a new social network called Campfire Convention, which comprises "a thriving community, a vibrant website and exciting events" aimed at creating social change and "a fairer society".

In Bournemouth, Campfire members Kimm Fearnley, Cate Bake and Clare Ryalls are setting up the monthly vegan supper club as a local 'beacon', where people can interact face to face.

"At the centre of Campfire’s values are respect and collaboration - the belief being there are so many great projects, schemes and people in every community doing wonderful things and yet many are isolated and unheard," said Kimm.

"Getting together with others via social media but also helping members to step away from their screens to create beacons in their own areas where they physically meet each other.

"We want these nights to be social, fun and also somewhere we can each learn something new and to get involved in our communities via a call to action of some kind, so we are not just talking and are actually doing."

Clare and Cate are committed vegans and Kimm has been a non-meat eater "since I could hold a fork", and all three are interested in yoga, meditation, cooking, outdoor activities, the environment, animal welfare, dancing, music and the arts.

They have bought an old camper van and are restoring it ready to use for outdoor picnics and meetings in the warmer months.

Profits from the supper club will go to local good causes.

At each meeting there will be a 'call to action' for members to get involved in something for the benefit of their community, by volunteering, donating or otherwise supporting other good causes.

At the first meeting, on November 16 from 7pm, there will be a talk from a volunteer at the Hope for Food soup kitchen about the work they do helping the town's homeless. The food will be a 'Mexican fiesta'.

"If you want to meet like-minded people with a diverse range of interests and are in our area, living, visiting or just passing through then you are welcome to come along," said Kimm.
