A MAN has been banned from entering the Canford Cliffs and Penn Hill area of Poole after he admitted a series of thefts from vehicles in the town.

Daniel Upson, 42, and of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday October 25 after admitting three charges of theft from a motor vehicle, three attempted thefts from a motor vehicle, fraud by false representation and breaching a community order.

He was sentenced to an 18-month community order with a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The order states Upson must not enter the area of Canford Cliffs and Penn Hill in Poole, enter any driveway in Poole without prior permission of the owner or be seen or located in a vehicle that is not owned by him or without prior permission of the owner.

In May, the owner of a black Range Rover parked their vehicle in Bury Road and Mr Upson entered the unlocked and took £15.20 in loose change from the glove box.

While in July, Upson entered a Toyota Aygo that had also been parked in Bury Road and took a card holder containing bank cards.

Later the sane morning, the victim’s bank cards were used at Tesco Express in Westbourne for two separate transactions of 50p and £28.76.

Mr Upson was arrested in the Branksome chine area on Thursday September 21, following a wanted appeal.

He admitted three further attempts to break into cars in Poole, one in April, two in August, as well as theft from a vehicle in September.

He also admitted breaching a community order imposed at Poole Magistrates’ Court in July for offences of handling stolen goods and fraud by failing to attend to complete his unpaid work requirement.

At the sentencing, Mr Upson asked for 12 further offences to be taken into consideration – six thefts and four attempted thefts from motor vehicles as well as two fraud offences, which all occurred in the Poole area between April and September.

Upson was also made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order for a period of two years.

Police Sergeant Adrian Thompson, of Poole police, said: “Daniel Upson was responsible for a number of vehicle crimes in the Poole area and his offending has caused a great deal of concern in the local community.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents that there are simple steps they can take to help reduce the chances of becoming victims of vehicle crime by offenders such as Upson.

“Always remove all valuables from your vehicle and ensure it is locked at all times.”
