A WOMAN arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a three-year-old girl last week has suffered a "medical episode", police say.

The 35-year-old is currently in hospital. She fell ill after her arrest.

She has since been released under investigation, Hampshire police said this evening.

They have refused to say if she was injured.

However, the Independent Police Complants Commission (IPCC) is not involved.

Emergency services were called to reports of a concern for welfare at an address in Whitsbury Road, Fordingbridge shortly before 7pm on Thursday, October 19.

The girl, named locally as Bethan, was airlifted to Salisbury District Hospital.

Doctors were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead later that evening.

A woman was also treated by paramedics at the scene. The woman did not require hospital treatment.

Neighbours later named Bethan's mother as Claire and father as Michael Colebourn, CEO of Southampton-based marine interiors firm Trimline.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a three-year-old girl in Fordingbridge.

"A 35-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the investigation is currently in hospital after she had a medical episode while in police custody.

"Our enquiries in relation to her will resume at an appropriate time.

"The wider investigation continues and a post-mortem examination of the girl is due to take place on Tuesday, October 24."
