FRUSTRATED residents have called for action to stop a Holton Heath layby being used as a toilet, rubbish tip and flytipping site.

Household rubbish, garden waste and general litter is being constantly dumped in the layby at Blackhill Road, which is close to Holton Heath Trading Park.

Wareham Road residents Sonja and Bill Sparrow say the layby looks terrible, smells terrible, and council officials need to do something to catch the illegal flytippers.

Sonja told the Daily Echo: “This flytipping has been going on for years.

“Me and my husband Bill walk up and down that road nearly everyday and, in the beginning we started picking up the litter as we went.

“We used to get a lot of compliments from people.

“Eventually, after about two years we had to stop doing it - it was like painting the Fourth Bridge.

“Right now the situation is that we’ve had two or three lorry loads of stuff dumped there.

“It is something I am almost weekly asking the local council to clear up. They do their best but obviously it is not working.

“The smell around there is evil, we have people using the area as a toilet as well.”

Local authorities across England handed out more than 4,600 fixed penalty notices and collected at least £773,000 for the offence during the year after on-the-spot fines were introduced in May 2016.
