THE Purbeck Film Festival, which starts on Friday (OCT 13), will feature 85 different 'film events' this year.

Stephen Woolley, one of Britain's most respected producers, will be visiting Wareham's Rex Cinema during the fortnight-long programme.

He'll be discussing one of his latest films, 'Their Finest', followed by its screening.

Highlights at this year's festival include a selection of award-winning documentaries on conservation, including 'Sharkwater' at Durlston Castle, 'Demain' and 'The Messenger'.

Film fans also have a chance to enjoy stylish and moody Film Noir crime dramas. The Rex will be screening 'Le Quai des Brumes' and 'Le Samourai' on October 18.

Festival chairman Andrea Etherington said: "Yet again we are proud to be able to bring a rich and diverse range of British and international films to rural locations in Purbeck and other parts of Dorset, giving residents and visitors the chance to see films that are usually only screened in London."

Throughout the 21st Purbeck Film Festival 24 different countries will be represented on screen, 13 films with women film directors, 12 events for children and one film on early release.

In addition, organisers say, there will be nine special guest events, 17 opportunities to enjoy a film with delicious food and 34 unique venues.

An event spokesman said: "New for 2017, we have a second night at Purbeck's renowned Nepalese restaurant, the 29029 in Sandford; ‘The Beach’ screening at Koh Thai Tapas in Bournemouth; and an event aimed at surfers at The Etches in Kimmeridge.

"Not to mention a delicious slice of cake with your cup of tea from Love Cake during The Rex Silver Screenings."

There will also be plenty for children, as the festival coincides with the half term break.

During the event youngsters have the chance to meet some of the world's most prominent puppet makers, including Andy Gent who is completing work on Wes Anderson's latest animation 'Isle of Dogs'.

The Purbeck Film Festival is scheduled for October 13-29 at venues throughout Purbeck, Bournemouth and Poole.
