RESIDENTS in a Verwood neighbourhood were left at their wits' end after a wild peahen moved in - and started eating all the flowers.

Christine Jones, of Burnbake Road, spotted the bird last week.

She said the peahen was "roaming the streets" and "eating all of our beautiful flowers."

"It's been getting into gardens," Christine said.

"Unfortunately, it has also been eating a lot of plants, and we've had to cover ours up with netting to stop it."

The bird has also been seen atop roofs in the road.

Christine called the RSPB and RSPCA for advice, but was told nothing could be done to relocate the peahen.

"They said, 'Shoo it off'," she said.

She even spoke to police about the issue, and was given some numbers to try by 101 operators.

None of the numbers connected, she said.

However, the hungry peahen has since moved on to delicious pastures new.

"We haven't seen it in a few days, so hopefully it's gone," said Christine.
