A MAN was hit on the head with a wooden item while burglars stole £1,000 in cash from his Bournemouth home.

At around 3.55am on Monday, Dorset Police received a report that two unknown men had entered a flat in Meyrick Park Crescent through an unlocked door.

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was struck on the head with a wooden item and the men stole £1,000 before leaving the property.

The victim suffered a head injury, which was not believed to be serious but he was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers attended and a search of the area was carried out but the offenders were not located.

Detective Constable Lynda Soutine, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and why this victim was targeted.

“I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the burglary to please contact police.”
