CHILDREN who revealed their favourite memories of time shared with a grandparent have planted a time capsule in the garden of a Bournemouth care home.

Residents and staff from Great Oaks, a nursing and dementia specialist home, welcomed pupils from Kinson Primary School this week.

Bosses at the home had previously organised a competition for all pupils of the primary school. As part of the contest, students were invited to share one of their favourite memories about their grandparents.

Six winners were then chosen by teachers and invited to visit Great Oaks to put their entries into the capsule.

The winners, Ellie Ashby, Cleo Rawlings and Lucy Curtis from year three, Oli Hayward from year two, and Anisah Begum and Tia Dixon from year six, were joined by Bournemouth's deputy mayor Councillor Eddie Coope at the home.

They had the opportunity to read their chosen memories aloud before the time capsule was buried.

A number of residents also asked for their own memories to be included in the capsule. One, Ron, added a song he had written about his late wife.

Ian MacDonald, home manager of Great Oaks, said: ‘‘It is important for us to become fully integrated with the community and build strong relationships with our neighbours, including Kinson Primary School.

‘‘It was a pleasure to see the joy on the children’s faces as they met with our residents and we listened to the treasured memories of their loved ones. We hope this is just the beginning of a long-lasting relationship with the school.’’
