CROWDS turned out in force to cheer on runners taking part in the Supersonic 10k on Saturday afternoon at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival.

All the pictures from the Supersonic 10k can be found above.

The event was followed by the Supernova 5k which saw runners of all ages wear fluorescent clothing and anything that glows as they raced along Bournemouth Pier at dusk.

In the Supersonic 10k, runners set off from Pier Approach heading passed Boscombe Pier towards Southbourne.

After turning back they headed west along the promenade, looping along Boscombe Pier, before doing the same at Bournemouth Pier.

A short run west to Durley Chine left runners with just the finish to complete, travelling back to Pier Approach.

The top three male finishers in the race were Ben Lewis, 34:03, Graham Robinson, 34:40, and Andy Leggott, 35:04, while the top three females were Eilidh Bell, 38:31, Sue Fry, 38:42, and Christina Squire, 40:27.

Lindsay Chapman, who recently claimed gold at the Invictus Games in Toronto, was amongst the entrants in the Supersonic 10k.

She won the Women’s IT5 100m track race at the Games and received a great reception along the promenade.

Julie Burden, who was taking part in the 10k, spoke to the Daily Echo before the race.

“It’s my first Bournemouth Marathon Festival," Julie said.

"I am using it as a build up to the half marathon I am doing.

"Next April I will be running in the Southampton Marathon to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.”

“Earlier this year I did 10k in the London Marathon.”

Lois Kidby, who plays in the Bournemouth Brass Concert band, ran the Supersonic 10k and she said: “I do two to three events per year, and I continue to train in-between them.

“When I first started doing them I did run for charities, but when you keep fundraising, you’re just asking the same family, friends, and colleagues to chip in each time.”

Susie Moore also took part in the 10k event and put in a lot of work to be at her best on race day.

“In preparation for the marathon I have done a few 5k runs, I have also been doing the Bournemouth Parkrun at Kings Park each Saturday," Susie said.

"My favourite part of the preparation so far has been the carb loading.

"This year I am doing it for myself, but my chosen charity would be the Meningitis Research Foundation.”
