PLANS for an 84-bed hotel in Ringwood by a national chain are set to be approved.

The proposals by Premier Inn for a four-storey complex at the former Wellworthy Site of Forest Gate Business Park are recommended for approval subject to conditions.

The scheme includes on-site parking facilities and an overflow car park, as well as landscaping features.

The development goes before New Forest District Council's planning committee on Wednesday October 11.

Plans have gone to committee due to objections raised by Ringwood Town Council.

Ringwood councillors raised a number of concerns over the design and scale of the hotel, and the provision of parking on-site.

Six letters of objection have also been submitted in response to the planning application.

Concerns raised by residents include the negative impact the hotel could have on the existing hotel trade, with claims the proposed development would have no economic benefits for the area.

The planning officer's report, which recommends members grant the plans, says: "Overall, the proposed development is considered to be consistent with Core Strategy policies and objectives.

"The proposed development would be of an acceptable design and scale appropriate to the existing business park and there would be no adverse impact on the living conditions of the adjoining or nearby properties."
