A MAN found unconscious in Bournemouth town centre after a suspected attack is recovering in hospital.

The casualty was spotted collapsed near lap-dancing club Wiggle in Old Christchurch Road by CCTV camera operatives.

Police and an off-duty nurse who rushed to his aid before ambulance crews arrived discovered he had suffered a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers are treating the incident as a case of grievous bodily harm.

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the assault.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Police were called at 3.20am to reports of an unconscious man in Old Christchurch Road, close to the junction with Lorne Park Road.

"The male was first sighted by CCTV operatives.

"Officers attended. While they waited with the man, his condition gradually worsened.

"Medical assistance was provided by an off-duty nurse, as well as the officers.

"It is believed the man had received his injuries as the result of an assault.

"He was taken to hospital by ambulance."

Officers investigated the scene for several hours.
