CHERRIES under-21 boss Carl Fletcher was delighted to see his young guns "dominate" their Hampshire Senior Cup second round clash at Newport on Tuesday.

Mikael Ndjoli's four-goal burst, coupled with strikes from Nnamdi Ofoborh and Jake Scrimshaw, saw them run out convincing 6-0 winners on the Isle of Wight.

Fletcher included no fewer than six under-18s in his starting line-up against the Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit who were reduced to 10 men just before the interval.

He told the club website: "We were looking for the right attitude towards the game. We didn't want any complacency.

"Initially in the first half, we had to be patient and we moved the ball well.

"Despite them being down to 10 men and the game being done and dusted, I was really pleased that the lads kept doing the right things.

"It was a very young side with the majority being under-18s so it was really pleasing.

"To come to a men's football club and dominate how we did was pleasing.

"We want to stretch our young players and get the best out of them. We don't want to give the under-18s game time for the sake of it, they have to be doing well.

"With the number of under-21s we have out on loan, there are opportunities for them."

On Ndjoli, Fletcher added: "It was great that Mikael scored four goals but we want to put the goals to one side.

"We're pushing him to improve and there are some things we want him to improve on, but he wants to learn and that's a real hallmark of all our young lads.

"We're pleased he wants to work hard to improve and you learn more about players on the bad days than the good days."
