ANY hopes of Uber coming to Christchurch could be put on hold while an appeals process takes place on the transport company's London operation.

The decision made by Transport for London, and any subsequent court ruling, will be looked at when Christchurch Borough Council considers granting Uber private hire licences in the town.

It was announced last Friday that the app-based transportation network would not be having its private hire licence renewed in the capital.

Uber are to appeal the decision and TfL have said they will allow the company's 40,000 drivers to continue running until this process is exhausted.

In Christchurch, Uber have been issued an operator’s licence for the borough, but have not yet been issued any private hire vehicle licences.

Sean Whitney, public health and protection manager at Christchurch and East Dorset Councils, said: "We intend to look into the details of the TfL ruling and the evidence they used to reach their decision, in order to determine whether this raises any legal implications locally.

"At present we have no evidence of poor practices in Christchurch as identified by TfL, but we will be keeping a close eye on how this case develops.

"Should the case go to appeal, any decision of the courts against the decision will be of particular interest.’’
