A CHINESE takeaway shut down after rat droppings and urine were found in a food preparation area has reopened under new management.

Health officials insisted Wok 2 Go in Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth closed its doors until it was "fully compliant" with hygiene rules after discovering a rat infestation earlier this month.

Concerns were raised after it appeared orders to the takeaway were still being processed through online ordering service Just Eat during the closure.

But a Just Eat spokesman said local partner restaurants were used to fulfil orders while Wok 2 Go was closed.

"We take food safety extremely seriously and are actively working to raise standards across the takeaway sector. We can confirm that during the closure, Wok 2 Go fulfilled its orders through its own local partner restaurants, who had passed all relevant environmental health checks, so there was no risk to customers" said the spokesman.

"Any restaurant wishing to partner with us must be FSA registered with the relevant local authority, and provide evidence of this, before we put them on our platform.

"Local authorities are then responsible for carrying out inspections to check businesses meet the requirements of food hygiene law."

Louise Jones, Bournemouth council’s Environmental Health Manager confirmed the business has now reopened and added: "Environmental health officers visited Wok 2 Go on Friday September 15 to check conditions at the premises. Substantial works and cleaning had been undertaken and there was no longer a health risk at the premises."

The business was the latest in the town to suffer from a rat infestation.

As reported in the Daily Echo earlier this year, popular town centre bakery Greggs closed temporarily because of a rat infestation in an alleyway.
