A CHILDREN'S play area is set to be extended to include a new multi use games area.

The site at Dugdell Close, Ferndown, is being enhanced following a series of community engagement events about the refurbishment of the Heatherlands Centre.

Residents felt the multi use games area at the Heatherlands Centre should be relocated. East Dorset Council officers, with backing from Cllr Steve Lugg, Cllr Cathy Lugg, Cllr Julie Robinson and Ferndown Town Council, have secured an alternative site at the Dugdell Close play area in Tricketts Cross.

The extension of Dugdell Close play area is likely to begin in January 2018.

Cllr Steve Lugg, Ward Councillor for Ferndown Central, said: “Residents spoke and we listened.

"This work between East Dorset District Council and Ferndown Town Council is a great example of how local government can work in partnership to achieve the maximum benefit for the community.”

The refurbishment works to the Heatherlands Centre are due to start in October this year. Once complete in 2018, the centre will operate as a multi-use community hub offering a wide range of facilities delivered by East Dorset District Council, the NHS and Dorset County Council.

Cllr Andy Skeats, East Dorset District Council’s portfolio holder for community, said: “This is a great outcome for our community and a direct result of listening what our residents want. We look forward to seeing the play area being enjoyed at the Dugdell Close location.”
