AFC Bournemouth want to stage the club's next Carabao Cup tie with a later kick-off time following Tuesday's queuing issues.

Some fans missed the start of the clash against Brighton as they were stuck in queues waiting to get into the stadium due to heightened security searches.

In a statement released yesterday on the club’s official website, supporter liaison officer Liz Finney said there were challenges involving a higher proportion of people who do not regularly attend games, managing the collection of 3,000 tickets on the night of the game, the new searching regime and time.

Cherries have been drawn at home to Middlesbrough in the next round of the competition with the fixture scheduled to take place in the week commencing October 23.

“We have to work within the tight stadium footprint and turnstile design that we have and we need to have full searching of supporters and, with another evening Carabao Cup game looming next month, we want to work to mitigate delays and improve the supporter entry experience within the framework of heightened security,” Ms Finney said.

“We are in discussion with Middlesbrough regarding pricing and have put forward the request to have kick-off at 8pm in order to allow a little more time for supporters to arrive and get in the ground.”

The statement added there would be additional stewards to search supporters and the club would attempt to refine the queuing system within the confines of the available space.
