A YOUNG mum was attacked by two Doberman type dogs after they jumped over her six foot garden fence and mauled the family’s cat to death.

Amy Hardware, of Severn Road, Tricketts Cross, said the dogs dragged her cat, 14-year-old Fizz, back over the fence into the road and killed her.

Now public health officials are working to trace the owner of the two dogs.

“I did my best to try and save her,” said Amy. “But they continued to attack her and then started attacking me. I was lucky that I was wearing a thick dressing gown, so I wasn’t physically harmed but they brutally mauled and killed my lovely cat.”

A passer-by, whose actions have been praised by Amy, helped her fight the dogs off. Amy said normally at that time of the morning her two-year-old son would have been with her in the back garden as she hung washing out.

“Luckily my son was inside and my dog was out with my husband, but it could have been a different story if my two-year-old was outside.

“They were vicious dogs out to kill and my little boy witnessed his cat and his mum being attacked through the window and was very distressed.”

The police attended the address but neither of the dogs have been located.

Amy said: “People need to keep their vicious dogs safe and away from the public so they don’t go jumping into other people’s private gardens killing animals and attacking people.

“It was the worst experience of my life and these dogs need to be found and dealt with.”

The drama unfolded around 7.30am on Wednesday morning.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed they were called to reports of an animal on animal attack.

Meanwhile, Sean Whitney, public health and protection manager at Christchurch and East Dorset Councils, said: “We have received a complaint about this incident and are currently looking into the matter further to try to trace the owner of the dogs.

“If you are the owner, know who the owner is or have any information that you believe could assist us in our investigation then please contact our Public Health and Protection team on 01202 795185.”
