THERE were delays on the Upton Bypass yesterday due to Borough of Poole roadworks at the Holes Bay roundabout.

The borough had coned off the western approach ‘fast lane’ resulting in queues later in the morning. The work is to carry out repairs to safety barriers on the Dorset Way.

Some drivers queried the need for cones on the Upton Bypass. One told the Echo: “It’s pointless coning off part of the ‘fast lane’ for drivers who want to turn right into Holes Bay Road.”

A spokesman for the council said: “We are carrying out safety fence repairs and the cones are in place during the day to provide a safe working area.”

The works, which started on Monday, are due to conclude tomorrow, and are only taking place between 9am and 3.30pm.

Motorists have also been affected by roadworks near Poole Park due to Southern Gas Networks working in Mount Pleasant Road, which has been closed.
