TRIBUTES have been paid after a "hard-working, loving son" tragically died on holiday in Cornwall.

Charles Allen, 21, a former Burgate student, and his brother Dr Robert Allen, 30, were knocked into the water off Treyarnon Bay near Padstow, Cornwall, at about 2.35pm on September 4.

Police named the two brothers who were swept into the sea while fishing.

Charles, who had attended Burgate Sixth Form in Fordingbridge, was rescued within minutes of a 999 call being made.

He was airlifted to Royal Cornwall Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Stephanie Fenner, head of sixth form at Burgate School, said: "It's absolutely tragic news.

"Charles, who we all knew as Chaz, was a really intelligent and quietly confident young man. He was really well-liked figure and had a good relationship with his peers.

"He studied business studies, maths, chemistry and psychology, which I taught him, at A-Level.

"Our thoughts go to his family and his friends."

A body has been found in the search for one of two men.

The keen fishermen, from Bristol, were on holiday in Cornwall with family when the tragedy happened.

Coastguard Rescue Teams carried out a huge search with RNLI Lifeboats from Rock, Padstow and Newquay as they looked for Robert.

Police were notified at 8am on Monday that the body of a man had been located on Constantine Bay in Padstow.

Last week, the victims' parents Anthony and Margaret Allan, said the pair were "happy, kind, intelligent, loving brothers".

"We are living a nightmare that you would never want to happen to anyone," they said.

They described Mr Allen as a "hard-working, loving son" and said Dr Allen was an associate at the University of Bath, specialising in 3D printing.

"They both loved being part of our large family and had recently become uncles," they said.

"They took their fishing seriously and would study timetables and forecasts before venturing out.

"They were experienced fisherman but a freak accident has changed our lives forever and it is difficult to find words to explain our pain."

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers were alerted by a member of the public and attended the scene along with HM Coastguard who retrieved the body.

"The family of Robert Allen have been informed and formal identification will be carried out shortly."
