POOLE Road in Branksome was closed following a three-car crash.
The A35 was closed in both directions following the collision near Tesco. It re-opened shortly before 2pm.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said they were called by the fire service at 12.34pm.
A white Renault Clio, a white Mercedes, and a black Citroen were involved in the crash.
Ambulance were also called to the scene and took a female casualty to hospital.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 12.29pm and sent two appliances from Redhill Park and Springbourne.
"One elderly lady was believed to be medically trapped but didn't need to be cut free once paramedics had assessed her.
"She and another female casualty were both given oxygen prior to the arrival of ambulance.
"We left the scene just before 1.30pm."
There has been heavy congestion in the area following the road closure.
Morebus' M1, M2 and 16 services were diverted.
