A TRENCH has been dug along the Lower Gardens to install an electrical supply to the area for events.

Fencing has been erected and ground taken up through more than 100 metres of the Bournemouth town centre location.

The work, which is due to last two weeks, is taking place on the former site of the air balloon.

The green is set to host this year's ice skating rink in the gardens.

The trench begins by the cafe at the Bournemouth Square end of the Lower Gardens and runs all the way to the footpath, before continuing up to the trees in the middle of the gardens.

The electrical work is being carried out by Utili-Light Limited.

Andy Mcdonald, head of parks operations at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “The work being carried out in the Lower Gardens is an extension of an electrical supply to facilitate future events.

"This will take two weeks to complete in total.”

The ice skating rink is due to be open in the Lower Gardens from November 16 to January 2.

Planning permission has not yet been granted for the festive offering, which includes two ice rinks.
