TRIBUTES have flooded in for an “excellent” and “loved” musician who has died after battling a brain tumour for three years.

Kev ‘Thunderboy’ Marshall, of Mudeford, had been a member of a number of local bands, including a four-year period as the full-time drummer for Lady Winwood’s Maggot.

The popular figure passed away at Branksome Park Care Centre on Friday September 1.

Kev was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in March 2014 and underwent radiotherapy in an attempt to give quality of life for as long as possible.

In his time with the Lady Winwood’s Maggot, he recorded four albums between 2009 and 2013, before starting his own band called Thunderboy and the Lightning Bolts.

Kev is survived through his wife Vicky, who he married in 2004, and daughter Indi.

Vicky met Kev while she was working at New Milton’s Chewton Glen Hotel and he was working as an electrician refurbishing the spa.

“He was loved by everybody. Kev had a quirky sense of humour with his curly hair and vast musical talents,” Vicky said.

“He was always known as the loud drummer. Our spare room is full of guitars, drum kits, harmonicas. You name it we’ve got it.

“Before he was ill we worked together at Stannah Stairlifts and we’ve got mutual work colleagues and friends from there.”

The 45-year-old gained the nickname Thunderboy in his time with the band while recording their first album with him as the drummer.

Vicky said her husband was always known as “the loud drummer”.

Lead singer of the Lady Winwood’s Maggot Mark Baynes said: “Kev was just a fun crazy person and a really nice genuine guy.

“Everyone who knew Kev loved him. He was an excellent musician on the drums, but also a great singer and guitarist.

“He was my best mate for the last seven or eight years and it is all so sad.

“At some point we will do a memorial gig for Kev. It is a case of organising it so we can do something for him.”

Kev’s funeral is taking place at 3pm on Friday September 15 at Hinton Park Woodland Burial Ground in Walkford.

The family have asked for people to contact them if they plan on attending.
