Packed beaches, the Red Arrows and hundreds of boats in the bay - the first Bournemouth Air Festival set the standard for the next 10 years.
With the tenth anniversary event almost upon us, we've unearthed a selection of our best pictures from the first ever event in 2008.
And there were familiar situations as well, with the disappointment of the Vulcan not flying on the Friday due to technical problems.
But fans favourites - the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - placed themselves firmly in the hearts of spectators from their first seafront performance.
Other aircraft who featured in the first schedule included BBMF, RAF Falcons, the Typhoon, King Air Tutor, RFA Hawk, Tucano, RN Black Cats, Guinot Wingwalkers, Blue Eagles, Yakovlevs, Sea Vixen and Catalina.
Night entertainment in the Lower Gardens included the heliocphere and street entertainers.
