TALENTED young street dancers from Shake will travel to Glasgow this weekend to take on the best on the planet at the World Championships.

The school trains in Ringwood and Fordingbridge and this Bank Holiday will see three of its teams make the long trip north.

Shake will compete in under 14 beginners, under 18 advanced and over 18 advanced sections.

And competitors hope to improve on recent years, which saw the over 18 advanced team bring home second place in 2015 and the under 14 team win fifth.

Crowds of more than 12,000 people are expected at the Scottish Event Campus Centre (SECC) and the Hampshire dancers will be up against teams from all over the world, including New Zealand, Russia and many European countries.

Shake founder Rachel King said each team has rehearsed for hundreds of hours for the event.

"It’s quite a whirlwind co-ordinating this many youngsters and teams and making sure they have all their costumes and routines polished" she said.

"The competition at these events is fierce, but I am so proud of them all for qualifying for the finals once again."

This will be the first time she has taken a younger team to compete, with children as young as 10 making the trip. "They're very lively, and I'm sure this is going to be quite an experience for them" added Rachel.

As well as the team event, a number of Shake dancers will compete in solo, duo and quad categories over the weekend.

Dancers have once again been working with choreographer Ryan Nembhard from Flawless in London to ensure their routines encompass dance styles such as house, locking, hiphop, breaking and tutting to impress the judging panel.

Under 16's dancer Eva Goodall said: "At times it’s been hard to keep pushing through the long rehearsals, but we have also had a lot of fun and all of us work really well together as a team."

Her team mate, Bronte Mosley, added: "I'm pretty nervous as we are up against 21 other teams who are all amazing but I'm confident we have worked hard enough to have a good chance."
