A MAN has died after he was found seriously injured and in cardiac arrest near a supermarket in East Dorset.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called yesterday morning, Sunday, August 20, after the man was found outside Sainsbury's in Ringwood Road, Ferndown.

The casualty, a local man in his 60s, had suffered leg and head injuries and his heart had stopped.

He was treated at the scene, with staff from the supermarket rushing to his aid.

However, despite their efforts, he died shortly after he was found.

His death is not believed to be suspicious, police say.

Paramedics were called to Sainsbury's just before 10.10am. Police were called around an hour later, at 11.13am.

"Officers and the ambulance service attended and a cordon was put in place to allow emergency services to treat the man," a spokesperson for Dorset Police said.

"Despite their best efforts, the local man aged in his 60s sadly died a short time later.  "His next of kin have been informed.

"The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been notified."

A spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Service said ambulance crews were called to reports of a male casualty with head and leg injuries.

The man was also in cardiac arrest, the spokesperson said.

A rapid response vehicle and a land ambulance attended and the casualty was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A spokesperson from Sainsbury's said: “Our thoughts are with the customer’s friends and family.  "We’re grateful to colleagues who provided assistance before paramedics arrived.”
