ARMED police stormed a property in Bournemouth after gun shots were reportedly fired at a window.

Two men attended a property in Wimborne Road in the early hours of Sunday morning and woke up the occupants by throwing stones at the window. When the occupants got up to look, it was then reported that gun shots were fired.

The men were then reported to have left the scene in a car. No one was injured.

Officers were called at 12.30am and carried out a search of the area, assisted by the NPAS helicopter.

A 24-year-old man was further arrested on suspicion of threats to kill. All five men have been released under investigation, police announced this morning.

A cordon was in place while detectives carried out a full examination of the scene.

Detective Inspector Kate Lill, of Bournemouth CID, said: “It is reported that this was a targeted incident and the men arrived at the property in search of someone who was not at the address.

“We have carried out initial house-to-house enquiries within the area and a full investigation is underway.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which may help me with my investigation, to please get in touch immediately."

Wimborne Road resident Shea Moreau said he heard a "loud bang" at around 12.30am.

"I didn't think much of it at first, then half an hour later I heard a load of sirens.

"I saw armed units and police dogs. Two police cars were blocking the entrance to MacLaren Road, and there was one in Bloomfield Avenue and another two or three on the corner of Tennyson Road.

"I saw police take a person out of the property and put them in a police car. They were also speaking to a female.

"I've never seen that many police in one area before," he added.

Rod Hogarth was taking his dog out when he saw flashing lights in Wimborne Road.

"I looked to see what was going on, and there was a vast police presence. I walked up to the area that was taped off, and there was a police officer with a helmet and a gun."

Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out patrols in the area in the coming days and can be approached with any community concerns.
