ANOTHER post office was mysteriously closed yesterday leaving many pensioners out of pocket.

The Kinson Post Office has been shuttered since Monday morning, only days after the Ferndown Post Office reopened after a five week dispute over its lease.

However mystery still surrounds the closure of the Kinson store, in Wimborne Road, where no notice was left to let customers know what was going on.

Yesterday, Michelle Travers, assistant manager of the neighbouring Pramacare charity shop, said she had fielded queries from some 30 pensioners over the course of the morning.

"It is pension day today, a lot of our customers collect their pensions from next door before coming in here," she said.

"They were auditing the books next door at 9am, then by half past the shutters were down and they haven't been up since.

"I had to put a note on the door telling people where the nearest post offices are, at Canford Magna and Cunningham Crescent. It is all very well if you are in a car but difficult otherwise.

"It would have been nice if they had put a note through the door."

There has been speculation that the store in Kinson is linked to the Westhill Post Office in Commercial Road, in the town centre.

That store was open for general trade yesterday, however its Post Office section was closed off and marked with signs saying there was a system fault. Staff in the store said the two businesses were not connected.

A Post Office spokesman said: “Kinson Post Office has been temporary closed since yesterday (August 16) due to operational reasons.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of this branch.

"We are working hard to restore Post Office services to the area as soon as possible."

The nearest post offices to Kinson are the Bearwood Post Office at 70 Magna Road and the Cunningham Crescent store at 18 Cunningham Crescent.

The Ferndown Post Office reopened on August 10, having been trapped in legal limbo since early July.

The Post Office said that closure resulted from a private dispute between postmasters.
