JUST read in a national newspaper that the number of lollipop ladies/men on school crossing patrol has dropped by 20% in 5 years.

If you ever drive along the A348 Ringwood Road dual-carriageway, 220m north of the West Howe Roundabout during school term, you will see two lollipop ladies, or rather Pelican crossing button pushing operatives, on patrol during school start and finish times. Surely these two ladies could be better employed patrolling elsewhere, where the need is much greater. Surely, schoolchildren are intelligent enough to to be able to press the button themselves, as they do 300m further south opposite Lidl at a similar pelican crossing. This is a complete waste of a resource, during times of Council cut-backs.

As an aside, open Google Earth for West Howe and click on the "man" icon and drag it onto this crossing of the Ringwood Road at West Howe where you will see two lollipop ladies standing in the central crossing isle.
