MCDONALD'S in Christchurch is going to be closed for four weeks to allow a major renovation to take place.

The fast food restaurant on Somerford Road is set to receive a digital makeover, creating an additional 15 jobs for the local area.

The renovation follows significant investment from local franchisee, Tony Bennett, and is similar to those being carried out all over the country.

To improve the speed and ease of ordering, customers will have the option to use one of seven self-order kiosks.

The dining area will undergo a major restructure, extending the capacity to 200 seats.

The free playland will also be receiving a revamp and a baby bottle warming facility will also be installed in the dining area.

Table service will also be introduced to the Christchurch restaurant.

Franchisee Tony Bennett runs 11 restaurants across Hampshire, Dorset and Bournemouth.

"We’re anticipating the changes will affect how customers use the restaurant, with those who used to pop in for a quick bite staying longer to use the tech we have on offer," he said.

"These changes are designed to make the customer experience as positive as possible and the new technology benefits everyone – whether that’s providing people with use of a table top mounted tablet in a relaxed environment, or providing parents with a quick and easy way of ordering their family meal."

The restaurant will close on Monday September 18 for a period of around four weeks.
