A MAN who repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on a woman who refused to go back to his flat with him, has been jailed for five years.

Sivakumar Ravisankar, aged 26, of Grove Road in Bournemouth, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He caused multiple fractures to his victim's face during a sustained attack in the early hours of Saturday, May 27, on a street in Bournemouth.

Ravisankar and his 26-year-old victim had been at a party together on the Friday night.

They left the party in the early hours of Saturday and were in the area of Grove Road, when Ravisankar tried to convince the woman to come back to his flat.

She refused, which is when Ravisankar slapped her on the cheek before punching her to the face, pulling her head to the ground and then punching her repeatedly.

A witness from a nearby property described seeing the man ‘raining punches down’ on the woman as he shouted for him to stop.

Ravisankar was also seen to kick his victim as she was on the floor before stamping on her head and stomach area.

He was seen to leave the scene and was arrested nearby around an hour later. When asked about what happened he told officers: “Seriously I’m feeling very bad about what happened, for punching her, I was very drunk.”

The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for fractures to both sides of her face and her nose. She also sustained bruising to her face, chest and abdomen.

Ravisankar was sentenced to five years in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, July 21.

Detective Sergeant Garry Knight, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a vicious and sustained attack on a defenceless victim that left her with a number of nasty injuries.

“I hope this sentence sends out a clear message that violence of this nature will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly by police and the courts.”
